Iron Man- PG-13
By Jonathan GoodsellIron Man is the beginning of the superhero flicks in the build up for The Avengers. Starring Robert Downey Jr. as the carefree Tony Stark. Tony Stark is the brilliant CEO of Stark Industries, a weapons manufacturing company. After being kidnapped by terrorists and seeing that his weapons are helping more people than just the U.S. army, Stark decides to shut down the weapons branch of his company, much to the dismay of his friend and board member Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges). Escaping from the terrorists using a primitive armored suit, Stark starts his personnel project of making the Iron Man suit and become the hero he's meant to be.
The best thing about this movie was the acting. Robert Downey did an excellent job like he always does. Gwyneth Paltrow, playing Pepper Pots the assistant to Stark., did a rather entertaining job and Jeff Bridges did an excellent antagonist. This was also the introduction of Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D who also appears in the other Marvel films building up to The Avengers. The plot was decent enough for a superhero flick. Though all the cliches always get to me, but that's just me. It was still enjoyable to watch. What I loved the most was the script. But then again, I always love the scripts for Robert Downey. He just has this way about it that makes it really enjoyable. There is humor throughout, yet its all classic Downey humor. The effects weren't over whelming which I was pleased about, cause movies like this can often go overboard.
The movie wasn't terribly inappropriate. Tony has a brief one night stand with a news reporter, brief 6 second scene and not explicit. There is also a scene with Stark and his buddy on an airplane where they get drunk and the air hostesses are dancing for them, once again nothing explicit. The language is very mild and brief. The worst part of the movie would have to be the violence. There are several fight scenes, some with a little blood. In the opening scene, Tony gets hit with shrapnel from a missile and you see blood spread across his shirt, but that's the worst in the whole film. The only blood you see after that is from scratches during battles. As Iron Man, Stark takes out a terrorist group, there are many explosions and couple men die. There is also a huge fight scene at the end between Tony and Obadiah, both in Iron Man suits. The film could have been made a whole lot worse, and the violence isn't extreme, but it's still there. To sum it up, this show probably isn't meant for your younger kids, but should be fine for everyone else.
So I did slightly enjoy this movie. The comedy is what really kept me watching. As I've said before, I'm a huge Robert Downey fan. So in my reviewer opinion, I'm giving Iron Man a respectable 6/10
