Sahara- PG-13
By Jonathan Goodsell
Matthew McConaughey brings it again in this humorous action-adventure comedy about an explorer named Dirk in search of a lost Civil War battleship with the help of WHO member Eva (Penelope Cruz) who is in search of the source of a spreading disease and his friend Al (Steve Zahn). This film was decent, not perfect by any means though. The plot was pretty interesting but extremely unrealistic. It was pretty much just your classic guy flick, plenty of half decent action and explosions. The thing I really loved about the movie was the humor, and that was about it. Like always, McConaughey brought plenty of laughs, though to my surprise most of the humor came through team work between McCounaughey and Zahn. They worked excellently together in this film. I was disappointed in Cruz though as she sort of stuck out like a sore thumb. This movie wasn't great, but if you need something to just put in and kick back too, it's not a bad choice at all.
This movie wasn't terribly inappropriate. There was a little bit of language throughout, but nothing terrible. It was mostly the action violence throughout which earned it the PG-13 rating. None of it was extremely intense and there wasn't really any blood other than some cuts and bruises. There are plenty of gun shots, explosions, and fist fights throughout. A lot of it though was played off as humor between McConaughey and Zahn.
This was a classic guy flick as I said earlier. There wasn't anything fantastic about it, but it was decent enough and enjoyable. So in my reviewer opinion, Sahara gets a respectable 5.5/10
