RED- PG-13
By Jonathan Goodsell
RED was a very interesting movie to watch. I went in expecting an action movie, I was completely wrong on that. RED, as it turned out, was a very well done comedy. It was a spoof of sorts on cliche spy movies. Starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren as retired CIA agents who are all being targeted by the CIA to be taken out along with Willis' characters love interest Mary-Louise Parker. While outsmarting hit squads and humorously outsmarting the bad guys, this rag tag bunch uncover a conspiracy by the vice president to cover up war crimes. Their mission: clear their names.
This movie was awesome. Really cleverly done, I was entertained throughout. The acting and casting choices were fabulous. Bruce Willis played retired CIA and black-ops soldier living the quiet life. He fakes not receiving his pension checks in order to call the help desk and talk to a girl, the Mary-Louise Parker character. John Malkovich is also a retired agent who believes that the agency used to do mind experiments on him, so he's the crazy character he always is. The whole script is filled with die hard humor, and all the cliche spy moves they make are so extreme it's hilarious. If your looking for a good laugh, this is the movie for you.
This movie wasn't terribly inappropriate. There were some action sequences, which is expected from the type of film it is. There is an intense fist fight about halfway through and there is a little bit of blood, but the rest of the violence is pretty bloodless. There is a little bit of language, but mostly all for comedic relief.
All in all, RED (which stands stands for Retired and Extremely Dangerous) was a very enjoyable show. Don't go in expecting a hard action thriller, you won't get it. But if your looking for a comedy, this is definitely the show for you. So in my reviewer opinion, RED is getting a rather enjoyable 6.5/10
